After having played 18 MLS matches, Colorado Rapids have positioned themselves at the 10th spot of the Western Conference and taking into consideration that there are only 11 teams competing, it´s not the best position to be located in.
Colorado Rapids is a team that during the 2016 season, they managed to secure the 2nd spot and seeing them dropping into the lower section of the MLS standings is a fairly surprising thing to see.
Something that has recently affected the team of Pablo Maestroni is the large amount of games that they have had to play during the month of June.
Staring from June 3 until June 27, Colorado Rapids had to compete in 6 matches. During that time-lapse of 24 days, the squad of Pablo Maestroni played 6 high-level games which is 1 match every 4 days.
The head coach of Colorado Rapids has recently talked about the burden that it has been to play so much as the 40 year old Argentinean head coach said:
¨We knew this stretch of games was going to be difficult. I think there were seven or eight games in 22 days, 25 guys on the roster, and five injuries. We knew that balance was going to be tricky in the latter part of this set of games¨
¨It will give us a chance to get everyone healthy and it will give us a chance to bring players in. More importantly, it will allow us to continue to work on both sides of the ball. We’ve been stressing to get the ball in advanced areas, being more creative and committing numbers forward¨
The last high-level match of Colorado Rapids was against Seattle Sounders as they faced off on July 4 and their next match is against Toronto FC which is scheduled to take place on July 22. This gives the squad of Pablo Maestroni a break of around 18 days where his players can rest and maybe even recover from some of their recent injuries.
