SigiSchmid praises Dempsey

Seattle Sounders coach SigiSchmid has praised Clint Dempsey for his great career following the player’s announcement that he will be retiring from the game. He said that it was an honor for him to have coached such a player and that he was one of the best players that he has ever worked with.

Indeed SigiSchmid was the manager of Seattle Sounders when Clint Dempsey joined the club in 2013 after having spent 8 magnificent seasons with Fulham in the Premier League. SigiSchmid said that he was an important player for the team especially with the fact that he had already made a name for himself in Europe.

LA FC TO MEET WITH LA GALAXY

With the focus of attention returning to the California Stadium on Thursday, Los Angeles Football Club LAFC would be looking to continue their strong run at home. They are unbeaten in nine games but they cracked under pressure on Sunday against Minnesota United FC, losing 5-1.

Unlike them Los Angeles Galaxy are getting stronger in the second part of the season. They have not lost in their last seven games, and would be seeking to keep their record against their city rivals. LA Galaxy defeated Philadelphia Union 3-1 over the weekend so they are in a strong mental position to do damage. Galaxy won the last clash at the StubHub Center in a spectacular performance that saw them come back from 3-0 down.

CCL: MLS ahead of LIGA MX sides

In the ongoing 2018 CONCACAF Champions League, Major League Soccer teams are ahead of their La Liga MX counterparts going into the last eight. The three MLS teams defeated their Mexican rivals in the opening leg of the games. And they are expected to finish off the start in the return leg.

The New York Red Bulls started the victory run, defeating Club Tijuana at the Estadio Caliente 2-0 on Tuesday. Bradley Wright-Philips was impressive in the game. Luis Robles also put on a show in the away fixture to put them on a strong foot to make the last four. It was not as easy for the hosts who were hoping to at least force a draw. Sounders name new assistant coach

Seattle Sounders have announced that Preki will be their new assistant coach for the 2018 season. The announcement was made last Friday. This is a great move by Seattle Sounders as Preki is a former MLS coach of the year after he won the title with Sacramento in 2015.

He unexpectedly left Sacramento in 2016 after a good season, and it was expected that he was going to move to England and work in the Premier League. However, he will disappear from the radar until last Friday where the announcement has been made.

TORONTO FC BREAKS MLS RECORD

Major League Soccer (MLS) side Toronto FC have broken a two decade old points’ record hull by a club. The top flight side achieved the feat with a 2-2 draw against Atlanta United. The draw pushed The Reds to 69 points total, moving them a point above the record 68 points set by Los Angeles Galaxy in 1998 for most points in a single season.

Toronto reached the 69 points hull in 34 games, a lull compared to LA Galaxy’s 68 points in 32 games. The Galaxy even lost points as games went to a penalty shootout in the case of a draw. They lost out in the shootout twice and were not awarded any points.
