HENRY LEFT OUT
The New York Red Bulls manager Mike Petke has revealed that the former Arsenal and Barcelona striker Thierry Henry will not be part of a squad that will be taking on Montreal Impact in an away match. Henry is one of the designated players at the club, and he will be a major miss. The Frenchman will not be taking part in this match due to an Achilles tendon injury. Meanwhile, the other designated player in the squad – Tim Cahill – will also not take part in the match according to the manager. Mike Petke is under a lot of pressure at New York Red Bulls after failing to win any of the opening three matches.
The team have taken just two points from these three matches, which has left them in a difficult position going into the away match against the table leaders Montreal Impact. Following this encounter, they will be taking on the second placed team in the division – Philadelphia Union. The match against Montreal Impact will be taking place at the Olympic stadium, but it will be on an artificial pitch. This is also likely to pose a few problems for the away team. Due to the absence of Henry, the manager has only limited options in attack.
“It was one of those things that I was very seriously leaning towards not even bringing him to Montreal, but no decision was final yet because we had a week from the D.C. game to the next game. But this is very ideal for me not to have him play on turf with his Achilles tendon. It’s not ideal how it worked out, but it did work out. Hopefully, Peggy will be back with his visa,” said the New York Red Bulls manager, whose team are ninth in the table.
