MONEY WORRIES
Top European players can earn around €90,000 each week and with this kind of salary they don’t have to worry about paying bills or buying luxurious items as it arrives to them without having to spend a substantially long period of time saving up money.
However, this is not the case with the Major League Soccer as the sport is not such a big thing in United States in comparison to some of their most well established sports such as Basketball or American Football.
Players that are performing in the NBA, MLB, NHL and NFL have top-ranking deals and comparing them to what an average player earns in the MLS can be very disappointing for the professional athletes that have to work just as hard as any other but get paid significantly lower than their counterparts.
With the exception of only a few players in the MLS, the average annual salaries of players that are performing in the American League don’t even reach the region of $60,000.
There are a total of 572 players currently performing in the MLS and only 23 of them have the privilege of earning more than the minimum salary of players in the NHL which is around $550,000.
This financial gap that exists between the MLS and the rest of the top European leagues in the world of soccer is one of the reasons on why the American League is not such an attractive football destination compared to other leagues.
The United States have more predominant sports than Soccer and this is why it doesn’t have such a big importance or influence in the country compared to others but there have already been plans which has been made to the public with the objective of turning it into a much more viable destination to play and compete against the best leagues in the world.

SCHMID HAPPY WITH RESULT
Seattle Sounders manager Sigi Schmid has stated that he is extremely happy with the 1-1 draw with FC Dallas in the first leg of the MLS cup semifinals. The play-offs have started with a bang with many surprise results. Dallas getting a draw against Seattle Sounders is definitely one of them. Despite being the away team, Seattle were expected to come away with a win. It would have put them in a comfortable position ahead of the return leg next week at home. After having failed to create much chances throughout the 90 minutes, Seattle secured a draw courtesy of Alonso’s equaliser from a set piece in the second half.
Considering the difficult nature of the match, Schmid said that the draw was a good result for his team. His opposition counterpart, Oscar Pareja, clearly did not feel happy about the result as he wanted to take advantage of the home support. As it is, his team have everything to do in the second leg and cannot sit back. Seattle trailed at halftime after conceding a penalty to Michel. Even a scoreless draw will be enough for Seattle to get through into the next round. Defender Zach Scott said that the new away goals rule is a major advantage especially for this campaign.
“We’re happy with the result. We talked about making sure at the end of game one we put ourselves in a position to win it in game two. We’ve always done a good job of being at home in the second game and winning the second game,” said Schmid to the PlainSailing site. “I think in years past we were maybe a little naïve coming into this first series playing away and finding ourselves in a deep hole. Now with the new away goals rule I thought we played it exactly the way we wanted to,” said defender Scott.
