Compared to other sports Soccer has been such a big hit but its popularity has recently taken a boost mostly due to the recently concluded World Cup which saw the American team reaching the round of 16, which was a feat that they had not been able to do since 1994.
The American squad which was being guided by Jurgen Klinsmann made a number of impressive displays throughout the entire tournament but the standout players where Clint Dempsey as he managed to score important goals for his team including a goal against Ghana which took less than 1 minute for him to complete. Tim Howard was the other player that was making news all over the world with superb performances as he made a series of impressive saves during the entirety of the event.
These players have helped USA to start taking a bigger interest in the sport which is currently being overshadowed by the NFL, NBA, MLB and NHL as main events that the Americans view and enjoy certainly more than the Major League Soccer.
The Major League Soccer has been progressing immensely in their quest of turning Soccer into a sport of more importance in the United States and this can be seen by the fact that 22 players of the 2014 World Cup arrived from the MLS compared to some 2006 where it only was 6.
The vice-president and spokesman for the Major League Soccer, Dan Courtemanche outlined the objectives that he and his company want to accomplish in the future as he said:
“Our goal is to become one of the top soccer leagues in the world by 2022. We want to become the elite league of choice for players in their prime.’’
